this lava formation was only a couple years old

the summit of Mauna Kea, the dormant volcano where the telescopes are, minutes before sunset, elevation of 14000 ft

Lynn has some lava rocks

We were going to bring some home but the locals warned us in no uncertain terms that those who remove lava rocks from the island can be subjected to very bad luck. They said people have been known to mail rocks back to escape the curse. We took no chances.
